In 1914, an allied force, consistently primarily of Japanese troops, force the surrender of German-held Tsingtao.
In 1940, the middle section of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington state collapsed during a windstorm. It is a famous case of harmonic resonance, caused by wind vibrating the bridge supports.
