In 1903, a joint commission ruled in favor of the United States in a dispute concerning the boundary between the District of Alaska and Canada.
In 1942, British forces seize the town of Andriamanalina in Madagascar.
In 1943, the Australian 26th Brigade reinforces 9th Division forces held up by fierce Japanese pockets around Finschhafen.
In 1944, Gen. Douglas MacArthur stepped ashore at Leyte in the Philippines, 2 years after he?d said, "I shall return." Said MacArthur: "I have returned."
