In 1943, the U.S 5th Air Force begins operations against the whole of the Bismarck Archipelago, particularly Rabaul.
In 1944, American carrier aircraft attack Formosa and Luzon.In the biggest air battle of the war, the Japanese lose 500 aircraft and 40 ships, the Americans 89 aircraft.
